CHANCES, the CHileAN Cluster galaxy Evolution Survey is one of nine extragalactic public surveys that will be carried out with the 4MOST spectroscopic survey facility through its first five years of science operations (2025-2030). Until now, we have largely focussed on the long and arduous work of designing the survey and optimising the selection of targets. However, with the final target lists sent to 4MOST and the fiducial 4MOST survey management plan being sent to ESO in October, it is now time for us to look ahead and plan in detail the science we will carry out with CHANCES once 4MOST science operations start in 2025.

For this reason, we propose for all of the CHANCES team members to meet together at the Universidad de Atacama (UDA) in the city of Copiapó, Chile, for a five-day workshop over 2-6 December 2024, to take stock of the work gone into designing the survey and target selection, and start discussing the key scientific objectives of the CHANCES survey and plan how to achieve them.

The meeting will also cover the following topics:

● Preparations for the science verification observations due to be carried out in mid 2025

● Early science within the first year of survey operations

● Development of the tools needed to efficiently analyse the 4MOST spectra of galaxies as they arrive

● Science projects with the CHANCES target catalogues

● Mapping the large-scale structure around CHANCES clusters with the eROSITA X-ray catalogues in combination with the target catalogues and future CHANCES redshift catalogues

● Synergies with cosmological simulations, other surveys (e.g. S-PLUS, LSST, ASKAP) and acquiring multi-wavelength data such as HI or radio observations.
